Museum of Comic Art

The Museum of Comic Art in Noordwijk calls itself the comics museum of the Netherlands. It celebrates comics as the ninth art, with the artist at the centre and original drawings straight from the drawing board. The museum opened in 2021 in a converted shop building in the centre of Noordwijk aan Zee.
What can you expect at the Museum of Comic Art?
- Collection: The ARKO collection of architect and collector Arie Korbee holds more than 1,000 originals: pages, covers, daily strips and Sunday pages by European and American artists.
- Exhibitions: Twice a year the main exhibition in De Schatkamer changes. On show now is Jan van Haasteren: The Missing Pieces of a Comic Artist, with more than 50 original drawings, from his years at the Toonder Studios to his famous Jumbo puzzles.
- Building: The building was converted, energy neutral, into one tall space lit from above. Through the wide shop windows you can see the comic art from the street.
- Children: Children can do a treasure hunt with a small prize, take a selfie with Asterix and Obelix and chat with Sigmund, the digital comics psychologist.
- Highlights: Highlights of the collection are:
- Originals by American pioneers such as Winsor McCay (Little Nemo), Richard Outcault and George Herriman (Krazy Kat).
- Work by Belgian masters such as Hergé, Franquin, Jijé, Peyo and Morris.
- The largest group of originals in the collection: drawings by Hans G. Kresse.
- A mural by comics master Dick Matena.
- The Joost Verhaar reading corner with some 2,500 comic albums.
