Boswachterij Noordwijk - Nature

The Boswachterij Noordwijk lies on the northern side of Noordwijk and forms part of the extensive Hollands Duin. Covering around 650 hectares, it is one of the largest continuous nature areas in the region. Here you will find a varied landscape of woodland, open dunes, wet dune valleys, heathland, drifting sand and quiet walking paths.

What can you expect in the Boswachterij Noordwijk?

• Plenty of space for nature: The Boswachterij Noordwijk stretches towards the provincial border with Noord-Holland. This makes it a wonderful area for long walks, cycle rides and peaceful moments in nature.
• A mix of woodland and dunes: During a walk, you pass through pine woods and deciduous woodland, along sand drifts and damp dune valleys, and over higher dunes with lovely glimpses towards the coast.
• Special plants and animals: In the wet valleys, plants such as grass-of-Parnassus and centaury grow. Roe deer, foxes, rabbits, squirrels, woodpeckers, butterflies and loudly singing nightingales in spring also feel at home here.
• Traces from the Second World War: Bunkers and remains of the Atlantic Wall are scattered throughout the area. They give the dune landscape an added historic character.
• Walking and cycling: Several walking and cycling routes run through the area, including the Boswachterspad Kachelduin en Malote of around 7.6 km. The woodland area is also easy to combine with a visit to Noordwijk, Noordwijkerhout or the beach.

Practical information

• Starting points: A good entrance with parking is, among others, the Randweg car park near the Duindamseslag.
• Accessibility: The Boswachterij Noordwijk is accessible daily all year round via the official walking, cycling and horse-riding paths. Because of sandy paths, height differences and unpaved routes, the area is only partly suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The Boswachterij Noordwijk is a varied nature area where woodland, dunes, wildlife and history come together. A lovely place for anyone who wants to swap the bustle of the coast for peace, space and nature.
