Berkheide - Nature
The Berkheide nature area lies between Katwijk and the Wassenaarse Slag and forms part of the extensive Hollands Duin. This open dune area is a wonderful place for anyone who wants to walk through sand dunes, dune grasslands, scrub and peaceful dune valleys.
What can you expect in Berkheide?
- Open dune landscape: Berkheide is known for its wide dunes, gently rolling paths and beautiful views. Especially in clear weather, you have wonderful views towards the sea, Katwijk and the surrounding dunes.
- Special nature: Many dune plants and grasses grow in the area, well suited to the lime-rich dune landscape. In spring and summer, it is a lovely place to discover birds, butterflies and flowers.
- Peaceful walking area: Compared with the busier beach access points, Berkheide is often much quieter. This makes it a lovely destination for walkers, nature lovers and photographers.
- Part of Hollands Duin: The area connects with other beautiful nature areas along the South Holland coast, such as Ganzenhoek and Meijendel. This also makes longer walks through the dune area easy to enjoy.
- Easy to combine: A walk through Berkheide is easy to combine with a visit to the beach at Katwijk or the Wassenaarse Slag.
