The De Tapuit visitor centre is located on the edge of the Meijendel nature area, between The Hague, Scheveningen and Wassenaar. It is an ideal starting point for a day in the dunes, with information about nature, walking routes, wildlife and Dunea’s drinking water production.
What can you expect at the De Tapuit visitor centre?
- Starting point for Meijendel: From De Tapuit, you can discover one of the most beautiful dune areas in South Holland. Meijendel covers around 2,000 hectares and consists of dunes, woodland, dune valleys, lakes, open sand and beach.
- Interactive exhibitions: In the visitor centre, you can learn in an accessible way how dune water is purified into drinking water and which plants and animals live in Meijendel.
- Walking through the dunes: Several walking routes start at De Tapuit, from short family walks to longer routes towards the beach, Wassenaarse Slag or deeper into the dune area.
- Fun for children: For children, there are playful nature elements, activities and excursions. The well-known Monkeybos and the play areas of Meijendel are also nearby.
- Spotting wildlife: The surrounding area is home to fallow deer, foxes, Konik horses, Scottish Highland cattle and many bird species. In spring, nest cameras can sometimes also be viewed, for example of barn owls and peregrine falcons.
