Ganzenhoek - Nature

The Ganzenhoek nature area lies between Wassenaar and Katwijk and forms part of the extensive Hollands Duin. This peaceful dune area covers around 95 hectares and consists of high dunes, open dune grasslands, damp dune valleys, woodland and scrub.

What can you expect in the Ganzenhoek?

• Peaceful dune area: The Ganzenhoek is less well known than, for example, Meijendel, which means it is often remarkably quiet here. Ideal for anyone who enjoys walking without crowds around them.
• Varied landscape: During a walk, open sand dunes, sheltered woodland edges, dune grasslands and damp valleys alternate. Thanks to the height differences, you have beautiful views over the surrounding dune landscape in several places.
• Animals and plants: The area is home to roe deer, foxes, rabbits and various bird species. In spring and summer, you may also come across many butterflies, dragonflies and special dune plants.
• Grazing animals in the area: Scottish Highland cattle and horses roam in parts of the Ganzenhoek. They help keep the landscape open. Always keep a safe distance and do not feed the animals.
• Walking through Hollands Duin: The Ganzenhoek is easy to combine with neighbouring nature areas such as Meijendel and Berkheide. This also makes longer walks through the South Holland dune area possible.

Practical information

• Entrance: Parking is available at the entrance by the car park at Wassenaarseslag in Wassenaar. There are also walking entrances from the surrounding nature areas Meijendel and Berkheide.
• Opening times: The area is freely accessible from sunrise to sunset.
• Accessibility: The walking paths are mostly unpaved and consist of sand and shell paths. This makes the Ganzenhoek less suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The Ganzenhoek is a lovely destination for walkers who want to experience the characteristic dune landscape of Hollands Duin in peace and quiet. Thanks to the combination of woodland, dunes, valleys and viewpoints, it is a surprisingly varied nature area.
