Lentevreugd - Nature

Lentevreugd is a peaceful and special nature area of around 96 hectares on the edge of Wassenaar. The area is part of Hollands Duin and lies between the dunes of Meijendel and the bulb fields.

What can you expect in Lentevreugd?

• From farmland to nature: Where there were once meadows and fields, you will now find flower-rich grasslands, pools, reed beds and scrub. This has created a varied landscape where many animals and plants feel at home.
• Large grazers: Konik horses and Scottish Highland cattle roam freely in the area. They keep the landscape open and create natural variation in grasslands, rough vegetation and shrubs. Always keep a safe distance and do not feed the animals.
• Paradise for birds: Thanks to the combination of open water, wet grasslands and reed beds, Lentevreugd is popular with birds. Spoonbills, bluethroats, reed warblers, whitethroats, buzzards and various ducks can regularly be seen here.
• Flowers and butterflies: From late spring onwards, parts of the area become beautifully colourful thanks to the flower-rich grasslands. This attracts many butterflies, bees and other insects.
• Peaceful walking: Lentevreugd is only accessible to walkers. The unpaved paths wind through the open landscape and offer lovely views over pools, grasslands and grazing animals.

A walk through Lentevreugd is ideal for anyone who enjoys peace, birds, open landscapes and pure nature. The area beautifully shows how former farmland can be transformed back into a valuable nature reserve.

Practical information

• Parking: Parking is available at the main entrance on Katwijkseweg in Wassenaar.
• Opening times: Open daily from sunrise to sunset.
• Accessibility: Free access for walkers. Dogs are not allowed because of the free-roaming grazers and the fragile nature.
